← Back to Channeling the Higher Self — Fractal Reflection Lesson 9

Asia & Oceania

Every tradition below expresses the same fractal pattern: the self recognizing itself. The shaman does not reach across a divide — the shaman tunes the instrument until the full pattern flows through a single point of focus.

Siberian Shamanism (Tungus, Buryat, Yakut) — The world-tree pierces three layers: the Upper, Middle, and Lower worlds. These are not separate places but the same reality at different densities — one continuous field at fine, ordinary, and occluded vibrations. The shaman travels between layers in trance carried by the drum — the drum is the mount, the flying horse that loosens the filter. The world-tree is the fractal’s axis: every point on it contains the whole. In descending or ascending, the shaman is not leaving the self but re-tuning the same self at another density.

Mongolian Tengrism — Koke Mongke Tengri, the “Eternal Blue Sky,” the supreme sky-deity and all-pervading pattern. The shaman does not merely serve Tengri — the shaman recognizes they ARE Tengri. Not identity-by-ego but identity-by-fractal: the self is the whole sky reflected at a point. There is nothing beyond the sky to reach; there is only a clearer and clearer realization that the sky already is you.

Korean Shamanism (Mu) — The shamaness is the mudang; the communal ritual is the kut. The mudang is chosen not by preference but by breakdown: sinbyeong (“spirit-sickness”) — a mysterious illness, visions, depression that nothing cures but a kut of initiation. The channel opens through breakdown — a forced shattering of the ego-filter. The breakdown is the filter failing, the whole pattern breaking through the crack — the aperture forced wide by affliction.

Ainu (Hokkaido, Japan) — Kamuy are spirits present in every element of the living world — animals, rivers, mountains, weather. There is no dead matter. The iyomante (bear-sending ceremony) honors the bear-spirit and sends it home — the world’s hospitality: spirit guest, human host, mutual return. If every thing is kamuy, the field is everywhere and the self is a thickening of it — a tuning cycle of the same one.

Australian Aboriginal — the Dreaming, everywhen. The Dreaming is not a past time but always-now — the Ancestral Beings’ creative period that is eternally present. The Ancestral Beings sang the land into being; songlines are walking tracks of song — singers who walk and sing a songline re-create and hold the country in being. Land is not scenery; it is sung. Walking a songline, the singer IS the Ancestral Being whose song they hold. The self, the land, and the always-now are one song: the complete song, sung at a walking point.

Polynesian (Hawaiian, Maori, Samoan) — Mana is sacred power, the life-force energizing persons, objects, and places — not “having” but standing in the field’s flow. Tapu is the setting-apart of that which carries concentrated mana. Mauri (Maori) is the essential life-force binding all living things. Kahuna is the keeper of hidden knowledge. Aloha is more than a greeting — the breath of life in shared presence. And ho’oponopono — “to make right” — is a process of confession, forgiveness, and mutual release that restores the whole relational field, re-tuning it back to mana-flow. (Note: Huna is a 20th-century revival systematizing these ideas — genuinely resonant with the higher-self model, but a modern synthesis, not ancient lore.)

Japanese Shugendo — the yamabushi, “one who lies down in the mountains.” Adepts undergo severe asceticism — waterfall under-runs, fasting, long mountain pilgrimages — to receive power from the mountain. The yamabushi does not command the field; they tune the body to the field until the mountain’s power flows through them. The mountain is the tuning source; the body is the instrument.

Filipino Babaylan — the indigenous spirit-worker who mediates between worlds, historically often women or gender-fluid men. The babaylan‘s openness is not a weakness but the very instrument — a moving joint between worlds through which the diwata (nature spirits) heal, divine, and channel. The gender-fluidity and role-fluidity are the aperture made person: a self that refuses a single fixed filter so the whole pattern can pass.
