What if a review isn’t a scorecard, but an invitation?

I’ve been thinking about feedback loops lately. Everything is one. You plant, you water, you harvest, you eat, you plant. You practice, you fail, you adjust, you practice. The body reads its environment, adjusts, adapts. We are pattern recognition water machines, and we are really good at getting what we want the moment we align with our own signal.

Trust is a feedback loop too. Someone trusts you, you show up, they trust you more. It compounds. But here is the thing about trust online: it lives in other people’s hands. On their platforms. Behind their algorithms. And a single good experience stays invisible unless someone decides to speak it out loud.

So I decided to build the mechanism. With AI. In public. And then give it away.

The Ask

One morning I sat down and described a plugin to an AI agent the way I would explain it to a friend over coffee:

• A five star rating system on my own site
• Reviews that sync with my Google Business reviews
• A thank you email for everyone who leaves one
• A review request flow I can send to the people I’ve actually served
• Schema markup so search engines can read and trust it

That was the whole brief. No specs document. No tickets. No project manager. Just intention, spoken plainly.

What It Built

Watch what happened. In one sitting it stood up a custom content type to hold reviews, a clickable five star form, a moderation queue so I approve(or just turn on auto approve) everything before it goes public, schema.org markup so Google can read the trust, an email that says thank you to every single person, and a request flow that reminds past clients their words matter.

It is the same plugin you can download for free right now. Not poured into someone else’s walled garden. Living on my own land, in my own database, where this plugin feed my site’s authority instead of someone else’s.

The email layer was the part I cared about most. It does not lock me into any one mailing company. It speaks a common language of hooks and filters that FluentCRM, Mailchimp, MailPoet, or plain WordPress mail can all understand. One feedback loop, many ways to receive it.

The Sharp Edge

Here is what I will not pretend. Pulling Google Business reviews in live needs your own Google API key and place ID. It is a real integration, not magic. So the plugin handles it two ways: the automatic pull if you have the key, and a dead simple manual import if you would rather paste your reviews and be done. No credentials, no waiting, no lock in.

I did not build the illusion. I built the tool, and then I showed you my overflow and how far the trust edge can go. That is the kind of trust I want to build with you anyway.

Why It Matters

I keep saying the goal of growth is to expand our capacity to give. Fill your cup until it spills. What spills nourishes everyone around you. Overflow Economics.

A feedback loop makes that visible. When someone thanks you, they are handing your overflow back to you, so you can overflow again. Review, thank you, grow, repeat. The loop closes and the cup refills.

This is the step I already freed next. A localized community of free people who get better so they can pour into the people around them. A handful of people, in one place, passing the overflow hand to hand. Feedback loops are how a community learns to listen to itself.

Is the review plugin free?

Yes. Freer Reviews is free, GPL open source. Install it, use it, it’s yours. That is the overflow.

Does it need a Google API key?

Only for the automatic Google Business review pull. A copy-paste import works with zero credentials.

Can it send emails through my mailing tool?

Yes. It fires standard hooks (ffr_send_review_email, ffr_thankyou_email, ffr_review_request_email) so FluentCRM, Mailchimp, MailPoet and others can route the emails.

Can reviews be rated to more than five stars?

Yes. Each review target can use its own scale, up to 10 stars, and reviews can be moderated one by one or auto-published.

Can I collect reviews for different things at once?

Yes. Manage reviews for many products, services, blog posts or anything else from one dashboard.
